The East Pocono Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered in East Stroudsburg, PA on November 23, 2013; the centennial anniversary of the sorority. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an organization of predominantly African-American, college-educated women, dedicated to public service. For over 100 years we have been at the fore-front of promoting programs and projects in local communities throughout the world that provide support in the areas of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health Awareness and Involvement, and Political Awareness and Involvement. Locally, we strive to implement initiatives that are specifically designed to uplift Monroe County. One of our primary goals, in the realm of educational development, is to encourage and support the pursuit of academic achievement and excellence.
The Alpha Mu Nu Chapter was granted a Charter on January 24, 2013 in Monroe County, PA as an unincorporated chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911 on the campus of Howard University by Oscar J. Cooper, Frank Coleman, Edgar A. Love, and Dr. Ernest E. Just. The name Omega Psi Phi was derived from the Greek phrase meaning “friendship is essential to the soul.” Some of our mandated programs include Achievement Week. It is observed each November and is designed to recognize those individuals at the local and international levels who have contributed to community uplift. Scholarship promotes academic excellence among the undergraduate members and local students in the community. Scholarships are awarded to students based on student applications and essays.
The Delta~Que Ball is a formal gala co-sponsored by East Pocono Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Alpha Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
The East Pocono Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has awarded over a two-year period more than $5000.00 in scholarships to students in Monroe County pursuing a college education.
The Alpha Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has contributed $6000.00 to non-profit organizations that provide local area students with scholarships to attend a Higher Learning Institution.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the “Pocono Scholarship & Outreach Foundation” and support the scholarship fund in both of our distinguished organizations for students attending college/universities throughout the country.
